We decided it would be a good idea to make a Twitter account for our group https://twitter.com/A2MediaMusicVid . This will make it easier to update our audience and viewers on our music video project. The twitter feed will be placed as a gadget in the sidebar so it is easily accessible.

Ideal audience member profile

Further Hip-hop audience research

Our ideal audience for the genre of hip-hop is the teenage age group and more specifically among male teenagers. Our ideal audience member would be in his late teens and still in education, we would expect him to listen to a lot of hip-hop and watch a lot of music videos on MTV or channel aka and these are the channels that tend to show hip-hop music videos. Their interests would be quite rebellious (like the genre itself) so he would be into his drinking and going out and would be more social than normal people. his dress sense would also be quite rebellious with baggy jeans, baggy hoody and most probably a flat peak in order to display their interests through his dress sense. They would buy albums on itunes instead of a single song of itunes because he listens to specific artists instead of a lot of random songs by different artists. The reason he chooses itunes is because it is easy to use and he would be good with technology. He may also illegally download music through youtube converters.

Iyaz- audience research

After gaining an understanding of the kind of gender and age groups accessing this kind of music, I was intrigued to find out who is making that extra effort to keep up to date with the artist and were he is performing. These are the audience we will ideally want to attract as they will most likely be the most loyal. I have searched both Iyaz' twitter and Facebook pages and have looked at the people who have liked his page in order to get an understanding of who his more committed fans are. It seems that the audience most interested in finding out were he is next performing is teen girls from 13 to 19. Follow this link for proof of my findings: http://twitter.com/IyazLive/followers

Of the 8 friends who have liked the Iyaz Facebook page it also seems that a majority of those are teenage girls.

YouTube Analytic
On Iyaz's song replay , below thevideo I am able to view the kind of audience members who have watched this video up until this point.

Top locations
 Netherlands
United States
Spain

Top demographics
Female, 13-17 years
Male, 13-17 years

This gives us a localized idea of what kind of an audience we are aiming our video at. The general demographic is teens, with males being the greater consumer of this type of music. Given that the results have gone this way and that our song has two men singing our song we will probably do the video from the perspective of the man.
Our genre of music is going to be Hip Hop, and our song is called Driftin' away.

In this post I hope to find out who our target audience will be. In order to do this I shall do research into the typical people who may be interested in the genre of hip hop. In order to do this I will be taking a look at Facebook, Twitter and various hip hop artist sites in order to see who likes these pages and who is commenting on the pages as well. Understanding target audiences is important to the overall finish of our product and will most likely shape the contents and imagery of our video. In order to understand the contents of our video we must first find examples of real life hip hop music videos in order to give us inspiration. I will take one video and use it to form the basis of my whole audience research.

The video I have chosen to use is Iyaz - Replay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoG5jJ3E8rg&safe=active&noredirect=1

An summary of the video The video follows Iyaz and his journey through a relationship with the love of his life. Although the video doesn't match with what he is saying the audience still understand what he is talking about and a girl is inc
luded to give the video some relevance to the song.

Our genre background

Hip-Hop culture

Hip hop was origninated in the late 1970's it was seen as an underground movement that started in the south bronx area in New York. Surrounded by graffiti art, break dancing, grime rap music and fashion, Hip hop became the most dominant cultural movement of the African American community in the 1980s. Taggning, rapping and breakn dancing were male activities of street gangs, this meant violent gangs were becomming more creative however there was still rivalry between different different areas. The popularity of hip hop spread quickly to mainstream white consumers through movies, music videos, radio play, and media coverage. The resulting flood of attention from wealthy investors, art dealers, movie and video producers, and trend conscious consumers made hip-hop a viable avenue to success for black ghetto youth. Rap music in particular found a huge interracial audience. After 1985, when the craze for graffiti art and break dancing began to lessen, rap music continued to gain popularity, emerging as one of the most original music forms of the decade.

Artist research- Notorious B.I.G

Christoper George Latore Wallacce (May 21, 1972- March 9, 1997)Also know as Biggie Smalls, Notorious B.I.G, Big poppa, was an American rapper/ hip hop artist. Mostly known for the songs
Juicy, Big poppa and Hypnotize me. The brooklyn raised rapper has also appeared in many films and one made around the life and death. Simillar to films such as 8 mile featuring Marshall Mathers and 50 cents "Get rich or die tryin"

Biggies first album "ready to die" was a huge hit when he released it in 1994 he became a large role model on the East Cost hip hop scene.

Wallaces protege group was a group that led his childhood friends to chart success, this shows how loving he was and why he was a star image.

Biggie Smalls was involved in the East coast/ West Coast hip hop battle and was later assisinated by a unknow assasin in a drive by shooting in Los Angeles. This was because he dominated the hip hop scene.

Since his death another two albums have been released and is now rated in the top three of the Greatest MCs of All time http://www.mtv.com/bands/h/hip_hop_week/2006/emcees/ because of his loose, easy flowing music.

Goodwin's theory of music video

1. Music video demonstrates genre characteristics

In Kanye Wests's homecoming video he demonstrates this theory by the editing. It is edited in black and white to make everything standout. There is a lot of focus on the background and where he is the big modern building makes him look like he has become successful. Typical modern building and city shots which relate to the normal stereotypes of hip hop music for example Nas and Tupac. The low angle shot makes Kanye look powerful and wearing fashionable clothing makes him a role model. He also relates to grime artists and shows his roots by wearing more gangster clothing like the balaclava. The slow motion shot of him leading the group also makes him look like the leader and everyone is following him and wants to be him. His hand gestures also are also gestures you see in hip hop and rap regulatory.
