Storyboarding

Another key stage in the planning of our music video was the creation of a story board and shot list. Some groups decided to use one board to tell the story and give them guidance in terms of shots. We, on the other hand collectively felt it would be best to create a storyboard of all the videos key moments in order to get an idea of the videos basic progression and then to create a separate shot list telling the individual shots we would use in each part of the song.

Here is the brief over view of the scenes that we planned to film in our video. Creating this kind of storyboard helped form a stable foundation for the assembling of our shot list. We knew exactly which scenes would be featured and so had an environment with in which to generate the best cinematography possible.

Here is the shot list the rest of our groups compiled together to get a good idea of what specific shots we are going to be using in our video. This kind of document really allowed us to understand what shots we would be using, meaning the filming will hopefully be carried out much quicker and run a lot smoother.

Digipacks research

There is a clear link here between the album title and the visuals of the album cover.  All of the conventions match the conventions of a hip hop music album cover. It has a background of urban destinations. It also has a a "nice ride" showing the motorcycle, with the attractive girl posing on it. There is no artist in any of the digipack images because the album is a collaboration of various artists.

In professor greens album it focuses on him relaxing in a natural comfortable location. He is in an inside upper class environment opposed to an outside urban location. It suggests that he is drinking alcohol as there is bottles and glasses places throughout the room. I really enjoy the colours displayed on this album cover as the colours you can see are enhanced. Overall the cover image is quite dark which could be linked to the meaning and the lyrics of the songs.
In this album cover there is a clear link between the album name and the cover photo. "Power in numbers" is shown through the very large crowd with the typical city background.

Performance filming

I did some research for the performance part of our music video, with the all white background. These are some of the similar videos I found, and what we are aiming to achieve with the white background obviously we are very limited compared to these.

Risk assessment

In order for our filming to go ahead it is vital for us to weigh up the possible safety issues we may face during the productions stage. The list is as follows:

Location 1: The School Hall

Risk 1: Cables

Our group are going to be using wires to connect our lights to the mains, these wires could cause problems when we are moving around. They are in the same area as to that of where we are filming and we may be at risk of tripping over. This would either cause damage to us or the school lighting rig. We as a group of director and cinematographers are at risk of tripping as well as our artists who will be coming on and off of the stage regularly and crossing the wire quite a lot too. This I think is quite a serious risk as while we are filming we may forget about the cables increase the risk of  tripping over. In order to combat against this we will plan out the desired paths we will be using most readily; while filming and position the cables so that they are not in these paths.

Risk 2: Raised platforms

A large part of our video is going to be taking part on top of a stage, therefore we feel it best to take the necessary steps to prevent any one falling off of the stage. We will make sure that the stage is clear of any obstruction and that we ave only two people on the stage at any one time.

Risk 3: Electrical Equipment

We will be around many pieces of electrical which could put us at risk of electrical shocks. Both me and my group members and the artists will be at risk however we will be in greater danger.

Digipack album cover ideas

These are the the album covers we did for the preliminary task that we were very pleased with. It could be an idea to use the graffiti background in the tunnel again if we want to portray our main artist in that kind of way.

Group meeting voice note

Here is a voice note that Mike decided to record when we were progressing on the narrative and planning ideal locations for our Hip hop music video.

Audience research results

A few months back I added the survey monkey questionnaire to the bottom of my blog, to see what our audience members would like to see from Hip hop music video so we could make a successful hip hop music video.

Results to follow

Digipack fonts

As i started to do some small research on digipacks about a month ago I thought it would now be important to starting brainstorming ideas from the primary and secondary research on digipacks our group has done. One big important factor of the digipack is font.

Here are some of the fonts we have short listed to use

Mise En Scene / Props

These are the kinds of costume the artist will be wearing along with accessories such as good headphones and a watch. We think the image of the artist is very important to the success of the music video. Because it would unjustified and not be right if they were wearing suits or smarter clothing. This follows the conventions of a hip hop music video.

Progression post

Pictures of how we set up the performance scene of our music video. We used the projector screen as a white plain background. It gives the impression the artist is in an all white area/room. However from the pictures you can just see it is a projector screen from our school hall.

We felt the need to extend the stage so the artist would be able to move around more freely so it would make the video look more natural and authentic. By moving the stage it also meant we could get both the cameras we used into the right positions in order to get a good variety of shots with different angles.

The extra lighting equipment we used was very important for our group. We used it positionally to get rid of the shadows of the actor on the white screen caused by the original lighting from the ceiling. The lights make it look more bright which we like as we going for a very light background.
